Methodology

A release pipeline built to explain its output.

NPI Data Hub treats provenance, product definitions, quality results, and artifact versions as first-class data—not documentation added after the fact.

STAGE 01

Archive the official release

Record source URLs and checksums, then preserve immutable raw inputs before transformation.

STAGE 02

Normalize to a stable model

Parse identifiers, entity types, taxonomies, dates, names, addresses, and source lineage without inventing values.

STAGE 03

Gate on quality

Reconcile row counts, validate NPI checksums, measure coverage, and review category mappings before publication.

STAGE 04

Publish an atomic package

Generate samples and deliveries under versioned keys, then move one publication pointer after approval.

Product semantics

What one row means.

The default Phase 1 delivery uses one row per unique NPI. A product definition states whether it selects individual or organization records, primary taxonomy only or broader membership, and which address establishes geographic inclusion.

Important boundary

Useful, not overclaimed.

An NPI record does not by itself prove licensure, credentialing, active practice, deliverability, or a business relationship. The product exposes the source facts and avoids presenting them as conclusions they cannot support.
